Experience The Benefits Of Advanced Spinal
Technology In The Beautiful Cayman Islands
Why travel for care?
You’ve probably been told that fusion surgery is the only solution for your leg and back pain — but there is a better way.
The next generation of artificial disc technology is here. Total joint replacement, a type of artificial disc replacement surgery, is available with the BalancedBack® procedure, which uses the same safe posterior approach and broad decompression as traditional fusion. Unlike fusion, however, the BalancedBack® procedure restores the natural balance of your spine, maintaining mobility and easing muscle spasms.
A Professional, Pleasant Experience
Our dedicated U.S.-based, fellowship-trained spine surgeons also practice in the Cayman Islands for one important reason: to access advanced technology not currently available in the United States. They travel to our international spine center in the Caymans as well—to perform your surgery and maximize your chances of a successful recovery.
Our experience is designed to give you the highest-quality care from the time you arrive on the island until you board your flight home. Here’s how it works.
As with any type of surgery, we’ll make sure you’re a good candidate for the procedure before you commit to anything. At our center, you’ll have as much time as you need to talk to your total disc replacement surgeon, ask questions, and learn about the surgery in detail. If all goes well and the procedure makes sense for you, we will schedule a surgery date and work with you on travel logistics.
The day before your scheduled surgery, you’ll fly to the Caymans. From the moment you land, we’ll be with you every step of the way. Our concierge service takes you from the airport to the NovoClinic Cayman for a final checkup, then on to your hotel on Seven Mile Beach.
The Day Of The Surgery
On the morning of your surgery, we’ll take you to CTMH Doctors Hospital, a small, private hospital just a few minutes from your hotel on Grand Cayman. You’ll be in excellent hands with our surgical team, who will perform your procedure and see to your comfort in the days following. Since this is a total joint replacement and not a fusion, you will be up and walking soon after the procedure to enhance mobility and recovery. You’ll stay overnight at CTMH under the care of our clinicians.
Our goal is to get you out of the hospital as quickly as possible. You’ll soon be back in your hotel, eating good food, smelling the salt air, and moving as much as possible. Our clinicians will work hard to minimize your post-operative discomfort, checking on you daily and accompanying you off premises for shopping or dinner.
A safe surgery is our number-one goal, but we also take pride in a superior vacation experience in the days following your surgery. We believe that the postoperative period is important for your long-term recovery and have structured an experience to maximize your chances of a successful outcome. After approximately seven days at the resort, you’ll be ready to fly home. Our staff will escort you to the airport, manage your luggage, and see you onto the plane.
We’ll coordinate with your primary care physician back home for follow-up visits and physical therapy as needed. Our goal is to help you regain full range of motion in your back and learn to live again—pain-free.
Although the BalancedBack® posterior total joint replacement procedure is relatively new technology, our first patients were treated nearly 10 years ago. These pilot studies yielded very encouraging results after one year:
